Intensive training in Site-specific Performance
July 2nd - July 5th 2008
An intensive
four day training in movement based site-specific performance working
with the inspiring landscape of the World Heritage Coast in West
Dorset and East Devon.
This embodied
and receptive approach to site-specific performance generates performances
that resonate deeply with the places in which they are created.
In-depth kinaesthetic exploration of a site elicits a movement vocabulary
that is a direct response to it, evoking unforeseen images and associations
and engendering a new sense of relationship to the land. These resources
are the ground for developing performance. The site becomes a central
protagonist in the work; the simplicity of the human form in the
landscape has its own eloquence. The training uses the Halprin RSVP
cycle for collective creativity as a process to create scores for
site-specific performance, both individually and in small groups.
Participants
include independent and community dance practitioners, theatre performers,
visual artists and lecturers in performance. Many continue to develop
their site-specific practice on the basis of the training.
